To Whom It May Concern.
My name is Gareth Crouth, I'm 39 years old and hail from the
great country of South Africa. I left South Africa when I was 18
years old and I've been traveling ever since, working various
jobs mainly in the hospitality industry. I have managed some of
the largest restaurants and bars in the U.K and across the globe
for almost 20 years.
In 2015 I decided to make a change and follow my love of diving
as a career. Working in Santorini, Greece as a Divemaster for 2
years fuelled my passion and gave me a wealth of experience
both with certified and first time divers but after my time in
Greece I wanted more. In 2017 I travelled to Cozumel Mexico to
complete my IDC & IE with Jim Hutchinson and Blue Magic
Scuba. Upon completing the Padi IE I secured my dream job as
an OWSI with Dressel Divers Club at their flagship location on
Cozumel, Mexico. The base its self is in the 5 Star luxury resort
Iberostar which has locations throughout the world. Within a few months I was promoted to the
position of Dive Boss working directly under the Base Leader because of my extensive previous
experience in management. Within this role I was responsible for the daily running of the dive base.
With the combination of Cozumel being one of the best dive locations in the world and the 5 Star
service guests receive at the resort the Dressel dive shop is an incredibly popular dive operation.
Most days we were managing the dive requirements of some 70+ divers, several students, DSD
divers and the activities of up to 7 large dive boats and crew daily. In my role as Dive Boss it was my
responsibility to support the Base Leader to ensure a smooth running and accident free operation of
our base and other bases within the company, as well as covering days off and holidays of the Base
Leader.
Having spent so much of my career in the hospitality industry has given me a deep understanding of
customer service, the value of patience and how to work with many different cultures, people and
the daily challenges this brings but always putting my professional foot forward first. I left the
Hospitality industry because I love teaching and imparting the knowledge that I have gained on to
others and sparking that same excitement in my students. Being a part of someone's journey into
discovering diving for the first time is something I am truly grateful for, to see fear become courage,
and anxiety turn to confidence; to be a part of this transition is a privilege and truly something
special. I am grateful to be a part of this every day
Thank you for your time.
